Liam Neeson is Converting to Islam

American actor Liam Neeson is converting to Islam. According to him, the desire to convert to Islam has sprung from spending time filming in Turkey.

Liam John Neeson, is an American actor (Irish background), 59 years old, nominated for Oscar, and has achieved a BAFTA and three Golden Globe Awards, during his career. He has starred in a number of notable roles including Oskar Schindler in Schindler’s List and Michael Collins in Michael Collins. Peyton Westlake in Darkman, Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars (Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Alfred Kinsey in Kinsey, Ra’s al Ghul in Batman Begins, as well as appeared The Dark Knight Rises, and gave his voice for “Aslan” in famous film series The Chronicles of Narnia.

Neeson belong to Northern Ireland and has a strong Catholic background. During his stay in Turkey, Liam Neeson had decided that the faith of Islam is appealing to him, as the beautiful sound of the Azan (Muslim call for prayer) had attracted him toward Islam and becoming a Muslim.

Giving an interview to a newspaper; he explained that the call to prayer was a reason of his change as it is “The most beautiful, beautiful thing”. He quoted.

“There are 4,000 mosques in the city. Some are just stunning and it really makes me think about becoming a Muslim. The call to prayer happens five times a day, and for the first week, it drives you crazy, and then it just gets into your spirit, and it’s the most beautiful thing”. He said.

“It’s a very good thing and it shows people it’s not a religion to be scared about or frightened about, and that it’s a religion that people are interested in and are attracted to, and when you’ve got someone like that attracted to it, they might think ‘maybe there is something in this religion’,” He said.

Neeson was married to actress Natasha Richardson for 15 years before her death on 2009, when she suffered a severe head injury in an accident at the Mont Tremblant Resort, in Quebec. He has two children, boys, Michael and Denial Jack.

It’s not the first time Neeson has spoken about religion. He always had the tendencies and regards toward religion and faith. In year 2010, he faced strong criticism after refuting claims by author C.S. Lewis that character “Aslan” in the famous movie Narnia is based on Christ.

Neeson voiced the charactor in the film; he also explained that the “Aslan” was based on other spiritual leaders of different religions, including Islamic Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). According to his words “Aslan symbolises for me as Mohammed and all the great prophets over the centuries. That’s who Aslan stands for as well as a mentor figure for kids; that’s what he means for me.” (Well, that is of course a whole another topic of discussion, although let’s take it as a positive gesture for the time being).

He can be a great source of inspiration for other actors and people related to showbiz, as well as a great example and sources of information that Islam is not that bad as it has been depicted by western media. Islam is actually a religion of peace.
