Coke Studio Season 6 Rejuvenating Afghan Pop Music
Coke Studio Season 6 has come up with really good tracks, first ‘Jogi‘, now an awesome track ‘Laili Jaan’ by Zeb & Haniya, the combination of fabulous vocalist and composer.
‘Laili Jaan’ is a song that first took the world of Afghan Pop by storm in the 1970’s, by Ahmad Zahir, a man who is considered the King of Afghan music, sort of beginner of the trend of pop culture is Afghanistan.
While Afghanistan is known for its wealth of heritage music, Ahmed Zahir contributed towards creating a legacy of Pop and Rock music that had touch of Elvis Presley, which led him to be regarded as the Elvis of Afghanistan. The song talks about heartbreak, that represents the tragedy of lost love with an entertaining way.
Zeb & Haniya perform the song as an attribute to Ahmad Zahir, as well as reimagining the idea through a female sort of perspective. The song is a reminder of a time where the rich tunes of Afghan music prevailed in various parts of the world, especially the growing up city our own Peshawar. Zeb & Haniya remember the song as a sweet childhood memory.
In this new version, the duo bring to the song a gypsy feel, it is complemented by the instrumentation performed by L’Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, a modern sound that meets the tone of rhythm and blues with an added layer of jazz.
